Refrigerant R22

Refrigerant R22

Refrigerant R22, also referred to as freon, has been the most popular refrigerant for HVAC and refrigeration systems the last 30 or so years. R22 is a great refrigerant but it is also harmful to the environment. The refrigerant R22 is scheduled to cease production in the year 2020. This will lead to price increases up to the year 2020 and after. With the increasing cost of the refrigerant R22, other alternative refrigerants are available to use depending on the circumstances. Advanced Services uses the refrigerant M099 for simple retrofit applications and the refrigerant R407C for major retrofit applications such as compressor change-outs. Call us today to find the most affordable retrofit for your system.
R-22 has been mostly phased out in new equipment in the United States under the Montreal Protocol, and has been replaced by other refrigerants with lower ozone depletion potential such as propane (R-290), pentafluoroethane, R-134a (1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane), and blended mixtures of HFCs such as R-409A, R-410A, R-438A, and R-507A.[7][8] See refrigerant for specific components of the R-400 and R-500 HFC blends used to replace R-22.1
